UserGems was founded in 2016 by twin brothers Christian and Stephan Kletzl. After founding a reselling startup for books and electronics called Shelfflip, and joining Y Combinator, Christian and Stephan decided to pivot and go back to the drawing board. Shelfflip became SmartHires, a software that could track customers as they moved from one company to another. This pivot marks the beginning of what would later become UserGems, a solution for helping companies keep up with their most likely buyers as they move from job to job.
